Subject: The Real Real World (not the show)
Sooo I've been in the Real World (with capital letters because it's real!) for a week now. I actually kind of like it! It's been a crazy week, as is to be expected of starting any new job. I've had to get shots and paperwork and leave work to go get shots checked and stuff, but I really like the idea of having some security in my life. So the job: It is so hard, but I love it. The kids are AMAZING, and the teacher I work with is also amazing. She's such a sweetheart, and has been completely supportive of my transition period. I really appreciate all the help she is giving me. What's better is that she is young, which makes her that much easier to work with because I can relate to her and vise versa. I am really loving it. I can't say enough about the kids. I was a little apprehensive about working with children with special needs because I haven't had much training in that area, but I've done a lot of reading about it in the past week, and I've started to apply strategies that I learned in EPSY206... yes, I am actually APPLYING material that I learned in COLLEGE. Because I GRADUATED. And I have a Real JOB. Imagine that... I never thought I would be at this point in my life, but damn am I glad I made it in one piece, cause I can tell that awesomeness lies ahead!
This past week was also really great with my friends: I got to spend a lot of time with Tony, Matt G, Kate, etc... people that I often miss. Kate and I never really miss a beat, which is probably one of my favorite things about that girl. We can go days, weeks without talking, and we will still be able to pick it up right where we left off. It's great. And of course, Tony and Matt. Last Sunday I had a race (more about that later) and then I was going to stop in to see the boys on the way home. Well, "stopping in" turned into showering then having dinner, playing catch, running around on a playground, getting ice cream, and renting The Producers with them. It was so great. I rarely get to connect with Tony because the two of us are usually on opposite wavelengths, but I was so happy to spend that whole day with him. I see Matt much more often, but nothing replaces that combination of the two!!! It was great- such an awesome release, and time well spent! :) P.S. I highly recommend watching The Producers when you're in a silly mood and with silly people... GIVE ME BACK MY BLUE BLANKET!!! AHH!!! ...nuff said.
So the Litchfield Hills Road Race was on Sunday as well. I ended up KILLING my time from last year by about 15 minutes, which I am really proud of. I averaged a 10:20 mile or so, which I know is not too impressive, but you know what? I'm happy with it. It's not about the time anyway--- it's all about the physical and mental strength of the runner. I was ecstatic about my performance, and then I had a great night with Tony and Matt, so my day last Sunday was all-in-all awesome.
So, that's what's been going on around here. Now on to what's to come...
I officially entered the EMS Reach the Beach Relay race in September. Check out the site... but it's basically a 24-hour, 200-mile relay race across the state of New Hampshire. Each member of the team (12 altogether) runs 3 legs of the race, varying in distance (3ish-9ish miles) and difficulty (easy and flat -very hard and hilly). I am excited but apprehensive about it... Excited because it's going to be a great teambuilding race, but apprehensive for a few reasons. I've never run 3 long distances in such a short period of time, I'm uneasy about sitting in a follow van for hours following my legs, it's going to be expensive, I'm afraid of getting hurt during the trail runs, and I'm afraid my splits are not fast enough.... to name a few. But the important thing is that I am going to do it, so I'm going to have to work through all of that and sort it all out. I'm sure confidence will come with time. It will be an awesome challenge!!
Wow, so this was pretty long. I guess altogether, I am doing well. :) A few bumps along the way, but nothing unmanageable. I thought I'd share some anyway... but for now, it's the weekend, so I am going to rest and RELAX!!! Ciao!
